The Last Supper was a glorious event, a gift to the world to celebrate in remembrance of Jesus Christ and the gift He gave us.
The bread and wine, the stripes and the blood of our Redeemer. Remember, it is for us that He died and rose again. Eternally grateful to He who sits on the throne. He who died and rose again, that we might have life eternal in Heaven. Jesus Christ, the Son of God, our Redeemer.
As I painted each one, it was almost as though I could see them. Take time to look at them, at yourself as his disciple. He loves each one of us in our uniqueness. Yet each one needed to be redeemed just as we did.
Water-Man series

God is a great mystery. Our pearl of great price.
Our faith, a path to finding the depths of treasure hid in Him. I am on that journey.
When one finds a treasure there is a natural gut reaction to hoard what we have found.
Fear arrives with the knowing of the immensity of the value.
Yet God would have us tell the world.
To overcome the fear we must obey and allow the Living Water contained within the midst of us freedom.
Fear is a dam.
Fear is a thief.
Here is part of my search to find the eternal in the brief interlude that we call life.
It seems quite odd to me that anyone would value what I say.
So I have struggled to not be selfish, to overcome my disdain of the humbling required.
The root, pride.
God would have the garden of my heart, mind, spirit and soul free of all such impediments.
Therefore I must dare to be bold and cast my fear to the ground from which it came.
Treasure is carried in a vessel.
Each vessel different, yet each given gifts and beauty by the Creator.
I am learning how to carry and share the treasure of Christ Jesus within me.
I pray for understanding, strength, and the boldness to be what I can only imagine the Father has for me as I learn to do and to find His strength in the being.

What more is there for this mortal until Eternity?

There are catalyst in every persons life.

On June 12, 2019 I was told that my sister had died unexpectedly of a heart attack on the 11th.
Silence.
No more laughter with my sister.
Silence.
No more time or opportunities with her.
Silence.
Until Heaven.

Terri was my younger sister by 11 months.
My only sibling.
We were total opposites in almost everything.
I loved her, the gift of her.
No matter our difference of opinion on almost every subject in life, I was grateful that she was my little sister.
Grief is not always silent.
Silence is not always quiet.
Silence can reverberate with "Why?" or "I don't understand" and
"Help me, God."

And He has.

Loss is hard.
Each loss that has come has been a catalyst. A drawing nearer to my Redeemer.
My questions have not been answered, but as I obey, choice by choice I feel His peace bathe my mind, body, and spirit.
As I tearfully prayed about this loss, I heard the Lord speak to my heart.
He said to quit trying to figure out, the "why" and the "I don't understand."
My flesh wants to wail, to wallow, yet I have been told to acknowledge each fragment of grief with gratitude.
I am obeying.
God is comforting me in the process.
Moment by moment as I remember Terri, I verbalize and think about her with gratitude.
Even the difficult moments of our relationship.

I hope sharing this helps someone as they walk through their own grief process.

Father God, thank you.
Last night I observed a wonderful thing about honey. If you put several teaspoons of honey in a bowl and cover it with several teaspoons of water and swirl, an amazing thing is revealed. As you swirl the water rapidly over the honey it will image / return to its original honeycomb shape.
As I did the experiment I was reminded of the scripture in 2 Timothy to stir up the gift of God within me because our DNA is in the image of God.

Persevere. Stir up. Press forward into your destiny.
Genesis1:27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

2 Timothy 1:6-7
Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear: but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Repentance is normally a cleansing act of contrition. There is a desire to repair that which is broken. Yet, negative repentance is "As a dog returneth to its vomit, so a fool returneth to his folly."

This is in reference to returning repeatedly back to a place of hurt. An example would be an offense administered by another to you.
The vomit being the return, or the oral dissection of the wrong, or the thinking and mulling over of the wrong.
Every time we turn to it, we are repenting of our deliverance from it.

This negative repentance is a spirit of error and perverseness that seeks to cloud our judgement and steal our joy.
Do not cast aside, the peace and freedom which God has granted in and through Christ Jesus to you.

It is disobedient to dwell on that which is not pure, lovely, and of good report.
We are to think on those things, the pure, the lovely. We are soldiers who wear our helmets of salvation, taking every thought captive.
If we allow ourselves to wallow in the wrong done, it puts us in opposition to the good that God has given through His Holy Spirit and His Word.

Allow God to heal your hurt.
Obey Him.
Refrain from returning to vomit.

The scripture before and after 2 Corinthians 10:5 states our weapons are spiritual not fleshly and follows with a promise in 2 Corinthians 10:6
"And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience,( when your obedience is fulfilled.)

Expect deliverance.

In Philippians 4 we are admonished to stand fast in the Lord. The peace of God is promised in obedience to Him.
Verse 7..And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Walk in the light you have received. A single sentence flashed in my understanding as we took communion this morning. A brief flash of light reflected across my face as the Communion container was being opened and my thoughts went to 1John 1:5-7.

Walking in the light you have received, consider with me, 1John 1:1-10.
As you read these scriptures, think about the Body and Blood of Christ Jesus. Our taking of communion, and that through this gift, that we have been given the ability to look upon and handle, the Word of life.

Christ death and resurrection are revealed and manifested in us as we obey and remember what He has done.
That through His sacrifice on the Cross, Christ has given you and I, a clear path to the Father.
Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. (John14:6)
Communion, to dwell upon what He has accomplished through His obedient sacrifice for you and I.
Walk in the light, for in Him is no darkness at all.
Jesus said, "Do this in remembrance of me." (Luke 22:19) (1 Corinthians 11:24-25)

Walk in the Light that God has revealed to you. Today, I have been led to think on the privilege of taking communion. The cost which was borne by Christ and freely given to me and all who desire to receive Him.
I pray that as He lights your path and your understanding that you also will take the time to think on those things which are pure and lovely and of good report.(Philippians 4:8)
Symptom: Willful blindness and laziness
Cure: Matthew 22:36 Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment.

A man is without integrity who will not seek God. For he has lied to himself first and everyone else when he states he is born again.
There is a willful fraud of being. A lazy cocooning of self that was changed at new birth, yet refuses to break free.
To crawl out of former bondage to fly on wings of obedience.

Who will define your truth for you? Will you tenure the precepts and intentions of mere man to determine YOUR life course?
Will you give that which is holy unto dogs?
No, your heart, mind, and body must belong only to the LORD who redeemed you.
You have been redeemed for eternity and a life worth living.

Come out from among them. Be ye separate.
The redeemed must physically remain amongst men and family yet remain united in fellowship with the Holy Spirit.

Abide in Him.
Imagery and our response to it can be powerful in its ability to refocus our attention.
For the disciples the sight of Jesus on a cross had to have been emotionally crushing. Beholding the One in whom all their hope of a better life,of healing and freedom was there before them hanging on a cross.
Although Jesus had told them beforehand the details and gave them assurance that it was expedient that He go away.
That it was for their good. It was for our good.
Yet, the imagery of a bloody, bruised Jesus must have been bewildering to His followers.

Devastating, until the third day!

I love that Christ Jesus did not leave that beaten, bloody image as the final one.
He rose again and they were given the gift of seeing Him whole and one day every eye shall see Him.

The art parable "Following the Dragonslayer" is one of the ways I see Him. If you would like to see part of the creative process for this parable click here.
Revelation says that he is the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, yet appears as a Lamb that was slain. ( Revelation 5:5,6)
Isaiah 27:1 In that day the LORD with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish leviathan the piercing serpent, even leviathan that crooked serpent; and he shall slay the dragon that is in the sea.
Revelation 1:7 Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.
Matthew 16:21 From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised agin the third day.

Let it go..start the new year with the resolve to hold tightly to God.
Yet in this natural world hold all other "things" loosely.
Never underestimate the power of God to change you or those things that concern you.
Trust God.
In a world that changes continuously, God is constant.
Constant in affection.
Constant in favor.
Constant in dependability.
Trust God.
He has this year and every year thereafter.
He has this.
He has you.
Make sure you have Him.

May God's love and comfort, renew, and protect you.
In Christ Jesus name. Amen
Luke 11:1 is the introduction to the Lord's Prayer.
Luke 11:1 And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.
I am sure John taught his disciples well, but humanity and fleshy endeavors do not equal rest.
He ceased is what grabbed my attention. There are certain places..situations where I prayed and ceased. When I should have "seized" the prayer of faith and confessed the Lord's Prayer of provision and thanksgiving.
There is a holy rest in the Lord's prayer. A humbling of heart that confesses not me and my ability, but His provision for all things concerning me. All things concerning you.

His will, not mine. My total dependence daily upon my Creator for my physical and spiritual bread.
An acknowledgement of my dependence upon Him to forgive, as well as to be forgiven.
A holy rest that meets my need to have my footsteps ordered and led by the LORD so that I may avoid evil. To be granted the blessing of holy focus that although the path may widen yet my feet may stay within the Way.

Prayerfully resting in His Love
Luke 11:2-4 And he said unto them,
When you pray, say Our Father which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.
Give us day by day our daily bread.
And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us.
And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.

Psalm 37:23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD and he delighteth in his way.

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Have you ever had a day where one thing after another seemed to rub you the wrong way?
I had that kind of day last week. One thing after another gave me an opportunity to react in a not so patient way!
I found myself....puffing up. Typing this is starting to make me laugh.

I can just see my frustrated self in my minds eye.

I probably didn't look all that different on the outside....but on the inside....I was ruffled!
I tried to put a smile on my face and keep walking, one foot in front of the other.
But no. Not working.

Still smarting from the aggravation of my day, I heard the still small voice of the Lord tell me to separate myself from the group I was with and take a break for a few minutes alone.
Explaining that I needed to go sit on a bench outside for a few, I left the group, to gather my thoughts and reclaim a better attitude.

I found a bench and sat down, still puffed up and ruffled inside.
Within seconds of my obedience to separate myself and get a grip on my attitude...I saw them.

Under the eaves of the overhang of the building where I sat, were three birds.
One bird was flying in and out attending to its nest, hidden in the eave.
The other two were busy twittering and preening. As I silently watched, I noticed they would quit flapping about and would start to preen. Their feathers were puffed out!

What causes a bird to preen...is ruffled feathers!

They pull their feathers one by one through their beak and cause the small barbs on their feathers to lie down. It is hard to fly when your feathers are ruffled.

To tend to preening...you need to be still.

Thus my call to sit for a while and allow the Holy Spirit to smooth my ruffled feathers.
I needed to be still.
Not deny there was a problem, but allow the Lord to realign my feathers.

Preening peacefully,
~Debbie
The love of the Father is not like this poem of fickle affections.
Human love..changes..at times constantly.
God is not fickle, but faithful.
A love given that builds not borrows, gives not takes.
Embraced, but free to go.
You are LOVED by He who will not lie and has told you so.
Amos 3:3

Shoes of Peace

Following the Worthy One
In shoes of peace

The road ahead is broad
Where nary a soul one meets
Who hasn't heard of the sorrow
led by weary, laden, rebellious feet

Where Christ is calling
Your baggage can be carted
on the broad way,
but must be dumped
to walk the narrow path

To take hold of a life worth living
To yield a furrowed field
and all your plans askew
To journey an adventure
where His mercy is ever new

But ..
the path is narrow
Where my Savior tarried and made the Way
Two can go together,
yet One must hold the other

Hands held and followed close
Eyes fixed on the horizon

The path..
Where mercy flowed
Where weary travelers left their load

Discarded their stains and woe
Following Christ and..
Away they go

As I thought of my daily physical and spiritual activity this past week, I realized I was in need of refreshing. As If my heart and mind were not telling me loud enough...a detector in my home started an intermittent beep followed by a verbal warning that said "Low Battery" every so often.
There is always another task and another place to go.
But let's stay home...and sit at His feet.

So what if...
God really speaks to us in the mist of our daily endeavor? Yes, mist..not midst.
So what if....He did?
Would you pause to listen? To gather your bearings, possibly chart a new course?
Would you begin to unload your cargo...to be still and really listen?

At times we flounder in our thoughts and life choices. Stabbing at every passing thought with a small movement toward recognition.
We search for patterns in the maze of life. A thread within the tapestry and try not to unravel.
This search for clarity and meaning can only be found in Christ Jesus.

Our heart can thrill when we perceive God's truth in our everyday perspective.
We can bemoan the darkness or we can lean into His light.
It is amazing that when surrounded in darkness that the smallest, tiny dot of light brings relief to an aching heart or weary mind.
We have been given a precious freedom from the present darkness.
Lean into His light, walk toward the light of His Way and His Word.

Refreshing..
Luke 10:38 Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house.
Luke 10:39 And she had a sister called Mary which also sat at Jesus feet and heard his word.
Luke 10:40 But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me.
Luke 10:41 And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things:
Luke 10:42 But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.

Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
This morning I awoke with a verse of scripture resounding in my thoughts. It was a morning thought pertaining to a portion of Psalm 23:6.. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life.
A beautiful verse, one which I am in the habit of confessing over my life and loved ones. But this morning in my sleepy condition I said the verse a bit different..which woke me with a start due to my perceived error.
<span style="color: #454545; font-family: "uictfonttextstylebody"; font-size: 17px;">As I recognized my miswording of the known scripture, I felt the Lord prompt me to consider what I had prayed. So I did.
I am asking you to consider my unintentional prayer for your own life also.
I am posting the initial drawing I sketched in 1996 of Reflections/snoitcelfeR ©1996 Debbie Turner Chavers.
This is a bit of an introduction into how my scripture study, drawing, and painting of Art Parables processes over time, sometimes over years!
*I will post the "finished painting" from this 1996 sketched version at a later date.

As with any endeavor in our walk with God, He has opened my eyes of understanding layer by layer.
Twenty years ago I was living in Hawaii and obviously that translated to my sketch.
When the Lord first showed me this particular image with James 1:22-24 I saw it quite personally.
Yet as with most things in our life, knowledge and application of bible study have changed me as God has showed me the universal need of all to see Him.
So a lot of my imagery for my art parables are Water-Men to represent everyone, male and female.
At the beginning of my walk with Christ my thoughts were all about me, me, ME! and how His Word created "my life" imagery.
Therefore in the beginning a lot of my sketches..150 or so were personal renditions and then I began to see the bigger picture :-)
It is very clear that we were saved and gifted to share the Good News for all, all, ALL!
Initial sketch of James 1:22-24

In the sketch I drew a forest with many mirrors. I drew the female who had dropped her pack but was walking away, back to whence she had come.
An initial look into God's Word will not keep you free of your burdens. You may lay it down initially, but life will attempt to give you more burdens to carry. But Jesus said in..
Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all Ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

The surfer, he looked into the mirror and left. There are places that people left many years ago but the imagery and the impact of that time is still there. In the mirror of their hearts and minds. Jesus came to set the captive free. If freedom is desired, it has been provided.

1 Corinthians 13:11-12 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.
For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I be know even as also I am known.

I wrote a poem about this initial Reflection drawing/painting in 2010 titled "Through a Glass Darkly"

Through a Glass Darkly

I thought I saw you
As I peered through the glass

I thought I saw you
As the sun appeared
And the dawn broke free

I thought I saw you
But it was a mirror
And it was only me
James 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your ownselves.
James 1:23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass.
James 1:24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
James 1:22-24

God's word causes us to see ourselves. The glass is like a two way mirror! Walk His Way and forget what manner of man or woman you once were and see the new creation you have become.
We are called to be Christ followers-mirrored reflections of His perfection.

Studying this scripture I noted a few things. The hearing and doing required effort, due diligence. A steady walk and a continual study of God's word. Relationships are hard to maintain when effort is only put forth occasionally. Spend time with God in fellowship and study of His word.
Even in our everyday life our appearance needs upkeep. Look into the mirror of His word daily.

Friendship is a sacred trust. Jesus has said we are his friends. He has given us a place of honor, a seat at the bride grooms table. He bids us come and eat and be filled. He has called us Friend.
Fellowship within the body of Christ is a call to keep our eyes on Christ. In our natural state we surely will disappoint one another. We are to judge fruit..not one another.
No logs or motes are we to see but only remember He is the one who hung on a tree and shed His blood for you and me.
His eyes are ever on us, and as His child and friend we are to honor that sacred trust and fix our gaze upon Him. Eye to eye.
Recently I met someone for lunch and prayed about the intended fellowship and the possible future friendship. I sought the Lord in prayer..talking out loud to Him as I traveled to the destination.
My question was answered. The answer was..Mine the treasure that is within this new acquaintance. The treasure is the knowledge, power, and spirit of the LORD contained in these earthen vessels.
I may have knowledge of many things in this world. But only the treasure of Christ in me will make an eternal difference to myself and others.

Mining can be messy and labor intensive. Friendship can be messy and labor intensive! Not only can people rub you the wrong way (offense) they can can also help sand down the rough places. The scripture as iron sharpens iron is an apt analogy of the process. Remember there is treasure to be shared and obtained.
We are to be light bearers, vessels of honor, pitchers filled and poured out to the thirsty with His living water.
But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.
It is difficult for a human to realize the purity of righteousness until they have recognized the dark stain of unrighteousness. Pure white never looks as brilliant to the natural eye until contrasted with another color. I was not able to appreciate spotless until I saw my sin from His view.
I had played in the world and needed a cleaning transformation.
But my perception was ..I am a good person. A nice person. We have many variations of self perceived self righteousness.
I was wrong.
Just as there are no stages of perfection achieved by human endeavor there are no stages of salvation. We have nothing to add in our flesh except submission to His perfect gift of righteousness.
It is no longer about who I am, but whose I am.

A "good' person sees themselves and their actions as a neutral white. But visit any paint aisle and you will be amazed at the many hues of white. Human nature takes most things at face value, like white is white...right?
But the Word divides asunder our human perception and opens wide the eyes of our understanding and allows us to see as He sees. Shadows and variations of fleshly endeavor never equal the cleansing and the stain removing power of His blood as applied to our lives and thinking.

If you are tired, tired of trying to be perfect. Then I have Good News for you. He who is perfect, Christ Jesus, is offering you perfection. His. His sacrifice on the cross and His blood which was shed for our redemption.
Today is the day.
Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
John 20:27 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing.
Isaiah 55-all of it.
Isaiah 64:6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.

Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is a gift of God.

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Revelation 13:8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
We prepare ourselves to meet needs and the LORD fills us and enlarges our understanding of the Word and His Way. I have completed two art parables of the Light and Shadow series. We are in a real war daily, unseen by most, yet evident to those in the battle. Remember God will NEVER leave or forsake you.
Not if, but when the enemy comes in like a flood, remember your Savior Jesus Christ has overcome the forces of Hell and has secured your freedom and victory. We are more than conquers through Christ Jesus. Our sure victory is in the word of our testimony and the blood of the Lamb, Jesus Christ.
We are composed of mind, body, spirit and soul, submit it all to God.

In version 1, the imagery is holding on..do not let go of the salvation that has been accomplished in you. In version 2 it is a reminder of the Water-Man painting in the keyhole of "Ye Must Be Born Again" ( click here) to see it. In this version they have been born again and are walking in their blood bought freedom. From darkness to His glorious light. Redeemed.
Consider:
Acts 5:15 Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them.

The thought is that we see one another as a Water-man, the blue figure which represents us, but as I studied I was shown a duplicate spiritually. I have painted it as I saw it. The blue Water-man is how we see one another, but the blood covering and what Christ has done for us is the shadow image. I believe it is how we are seen spiritually by principalities, powers, rulers of darkness of this world and spiritual wickedness in high places.
Do as the word of God says: (Paraphrase mine..Ephesians 6:10-18)
Take unto you the whole armour of God,girt your loins with truth, have on the breastplate of righteousness, your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace, take your shield of faith and your helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God and pray with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching there unto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.
We are blood bought children of God. We are REDEEMED and we say so.
~Debbie

Psalm 107:2 Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy.

1 John 4:4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

Revelation 12:10-11 And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.
And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.
