Selah-Pause and Consider

Life Line -The Word and Blood of Jesus Christ, Do Not Let Go copyright © 2011 Debbie Turner Chavers A friend sent me an encouragement via email  that included this sentence. "Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, 'I will try again tomorrow.' " How often do we give up?  To only realize later, that just a little more effort would have achieved our goal. Most of us have things that inspire us, an intentional nudge to reach for the prize.  Whether through words, actions, or monetary achievement we struggle to find, to look for  the courage to push past our personal limitations.  Today I want to encourage you to push past your own perceived and real limitations.  To reach up and reach out.  To hang on, to take a stand.    Philippians 3: 13-14 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but [this] one thing [I do], forgetting those things which are beh...

A journal entry

Image
Enough © 2004 Debbie Turner Chavers I have many things to be grateful to God for, and all of my children are blessings to me and my husband. Each one is a gift from God. Last month, I read a sentence from another writer that spoke to my heart. It was written by another mother, Emily Wierenga, who was concerned over her perceived weakness to handle parenting and life. She was feeling over-whelmed. Emily's dialogue with the Lord was " I haven't called you---a voice says, and I lean into the air listening. I haven't called you to be strong. I have called you to be obedient." In life and parenting there are so many opportunities to question your ability. Yet, success is measured by His ability, not ours. Do not trust your own efforts. Trust Him and His ability to complete that which He started. Put up your shield of faith and stand. Stand on His promise to be with you and never leave or forsake you. His promise to you and your generations. S...

Begging

Image
For many years I had a cockatoo.  Her name was Halo.  Halo was always insistent  and learned to say Please! early on.  As a young bird we had taught her to ask for treats and things by saying Please!  I learned many lessons interacting with Halo.  The lesson of patience was acquired quickly by calming this creature.  Once Halo had a notion there was not much that could distract her focus.  I likened it to prayer.  It certainly made me pray!  This is the lesson I learned by listening to Halo beg, "Please,Please, Please".  This litany of repetition would be uttered almost in a whisper which would escalate into a full fledged crescendo if not addressed quickly.  On this particular occasion, Halo kept urging me to satisfy her need for a treat.  In reality her want of a treat.. And so she started begging, "Please, Please, Please" and on it went.   I was busy so I became annoyed because the thing she was asking...

Agree with God

Image
"Can Two Walk Together, Except They Be Agreed?" copyright © 2004 Debbie Turner Chavers From Amos 3:3 I want to encourage each of you as well as myself to trust in the Lord Jesus .  To trust when all seems lost, when life doesn't make sense. Remember that God is still God. Period.  That He loves you and wants to do you good and not evil all the days of your life. Jeremiah 29:11 God does not waver or change. Stay in agreement with Him. Let your confession, your words in conversation and alone, humbly acknowledge, that God is in control and that if He says it, you agree.   He gives you peace, even in the midst of great hurt, He is your Prince of Peace. Rejoice in this . Break out the tambourine! The drums, the bells and the whistles.  God is good and He loves us with an everlasting love. There may be times of sorrow, but rejoice in the Lord, and again I say rejoice. Life may not be fair, at times p...

The Scent of Water

Image
Life Line - The Word and Blood of Jesus Christ, Do Not Let Go copyright © 2011 Debbie Turner Chavers A few days ago I was reading Job 14.  Not my favorite book of the bible.  Life was hard for Job.  Chapter 14 starts as Job 14:1   Man [that is] born of a woman [is] of few days, and full of trouble. Life can be hard and hard to deal with, as Job so aptly states.  But God gave us His Word to find hope once again.  Even in the midst of Job's stated misery, I related to the tree. Job 14:7 For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease. Job 14:8   Though the root thereof wax old in the earth, and the stock thereof die in the ground; As I continued to read, I was caught up in verse 9, Job 14:9 [Yet] through the scent of water it will bud, and bring forth boughs like a plant. The scent of water. Hope is like the scent of water. The h...

You are a Masterpiece-Wonderfully and Fearfully Made

Lately, I have been listening to the preaching of Joseph Prince.  His ministry sends daily devotional encouragements.  I like to encourage others in their life and their walk with God.  So one of the things I do in my own life is to seek encouragement from God, His word, and the encouragement given by others in these areas.  I really like how Joseph broke apart the different designations of gifting in today's encouragement. I am enclosing a link below to read it for yourself. This particular encouragement reminded me of Psalm 139.  For indeed God has designed each of us in particular.  There is no detail about us that was overlooked.  For we are fearfully and wonderfully made.  God fashioned each of us as His wondrous masterpiece.  I pray that we will see ourselves as His masterpiece and reflect His bestowed goodness toward one another.  Today, lift up your eyes and look unto Him, He is well able to meet your every need.  You ...

Forgive And Let God Do The Rest

Ephesians 4:32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you. People like to say, “I can forgive, but I cannot forget.” Have you heard that before? Now, in the first place, nowhere in the Bible does God tell you to forgive and then to forget. It is not in the Bible! The devil is adding something here to make the whole thing burdensome. God only tells us to forgive because God in Christ has forgiven us a debt we cannot pay. When we do this, we do ourselves a favor because harboring bitterness and unforgiveness can sometimes destroy our health! So just forgive and let God take care of the rest. When you really forgive, sometimes, He makes you forget. But sometimes, you still remember the incident because it was a major thing in your life. Yet, when you look back at it, the pain is no more there. The sting is gone and you are not bitter. Joseph had forgiven his brothers before they came and bowed before him. He remembered wh...
