The Scent of Water

Life Line-The Word and Blood of Jesus Christ, Do Not Let Go

 A few days ago I was reading Job 14.  Not my favorite book of the bible.  Life was hard for Job.
Chapter 14 starts as Job 14:1  Man [that is] born of a woman [is] of few days, and full of trouble.

Life can be hard and hard to deal with, as Job so aptly states.  But God gave us His Word to find hope once again.  Even in the midst of Job's stated misery, I related to the tree.

Job 14:7 For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease.
Job 14:8  Though the root thereof wax old in the earth, and the stock thereof die in the ground;

As I continued to read, I was caught up in verse 9,
Job 14:9 [Yet] through the scent of water it will bud, and bring forth boughs like a plant.

The scent of water. Hope is like the scent of water. The hope contained in God's word.  Just a glimpse, a scent, and we can bloom again. From hopeless to new growth.  Resurrection.  There is resurrection power in the spoken and applied word of God.  I am branching out in the beauty of new beginnings, being watered by the word of the Lord.

God's word is the scent of water to me.....pulling me from the depths of despair, the gates of undone, the hopelessness of yet another failure.
The scent of water...the water of Life.  My Life Line.

What did I learn today?  That as I am being schooled by the Holy Spirit in God's word, that there is no permanent  failure in the study of His word. That as I apply myself, God is ever patient to go over the material contained in living the life He has given me. That life is a process and that He will continue to teach me until I have passed.  Passed from this life into the glorious future of eternity.

What did I learn today?  That Jesus is the vine and that I am one of the branches.
