A Paradox in Poetry and Art

© 2004 Debbie Turner Chavers

Poetry is expressed from where I am, where I have been, and where I am going. I write the poem as an expression of human nature and spiritual longing. Throughout time, spirit and verbal expression have moved man.
At times I write poetry after reading scripture, at times when I am pondering, rolling over my need for expression.  I painted an Art Parable titled "Enough" and after reading Isaiah 54, I saw a paradox in my poem of 2013 and my painting in 2004.

Isaiah 54:2 Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes.

I don't believe another can tell you when you are full. There is a satiety point for all.
As you partake in consuming, only you can say when you are full.
Whether you have need of filling or have had enough.
My point is..EAT until you are full.

I Long For You

I long for you
For you to fill my emptiness
To wash away the fullness of that which pains me
To remove the bloat of "everydayness"
The incessant fluff of "nothingness"
Nothing that really matters

I long for you
To open my eyes to new possibilities in a wide place
A place of pure air
A large place where I can breathe
Enlarge my understanding Lord
I long for you
