Hear and Obey

Image
Hear and Obey © 2011 Debbie Turner Chavers I recently saw an advertisement on TBN for a microfilm bible.  The entire bible! It had to be viewed with a microscope.  This caused me to think about my own life and testimony. My daily life and choices.  Have I reduced the bible and its implications to a microscope size?  How hard do others have to look to find Christ in me?  I want God to live large in my life.  To hear as He hears, to be moved by what moves Him.  Are we listening? Has disobedience stuffed our ears?  When I was young, people would say "Take the cotton out of your ears." Cotton in this case would represent willful disobedience.  You put it there, you remove it.  Open your ears to receive God's good word for you. The hearing ear is a gift from God. Proverbs 20:12   The hearing ear , and the seeing eye, the LORD hath made even both of them. Matthew 11:15   He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. ...

Technology-Tool? or Idol?

Image
Power Stuggle © 1999 Debbie Turner Chavers Today we are flooded with technology. The ability to check in or check out with a finger tip. Often the technology strips away our humanity and leaves us with a social facade. We hide behind the tech cover. Many have fallen beneath the allure of checking out. It has become easier to live life at "screens length". There is a need to regularly do a "soul check" of our use of technology. Have you replaced one on one time with others, with social media? It is difficult to have a meaningful relationship with anyone, when there is a screen of any kind in between you and another human. When technology steals from your soul, mind, or body, it is an idol . Technological use without benefit of Holy Spirit led instruction can be a tool of destruction. Prayerfully consider your use and time with technology. Is it a tool that is being used properly by you or an idol? Has it replaced time with God or loved ones? Technolog...

Habit

Mark 10:1  And he arose from thence, and cometh into the coasts of Judae by the farther side of Jordan, and the people resort into him again, and, as he was wont, he taught them again. As I read this verse this morning, I noted..."as he was wont" or in other words " as was his habit. We all have habits. Things we do habitually. One of the wonderful things about reading God's word is that it allows you to have Selah moments. The opportunity to pause and consider your life, thoughts and manner in the light of His word.  Word association is an attention grabber.  More than likely when you read the word " habits" you mentally identified one of your own.  Wonderful.  So pause and consider. Does "the Habit" bring refreshment? ~Debbie Here is my Selah Reflection for today from today's Proverb in the NIV bible. Proverbs 13:10 Pride only breeds quarrels, but wisdom is found in those who take advice. All writing, poetry, posts, art,...

Your Father's Heart

This encouragement posted below was sent to me via a daily encouragement from Pastor Joseph Prince's Ministry. If you would like to receive his  Daily Grace Inspirations  you can click here to sign up at his web site.  I listen to Pastor Prince on a regular basis.  I thought the posting below was a beautiful example of God's great love for us, so I am reposting it on my blog. ~Debbie ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Your Father's Heart Matthew 7:11   If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him! Let me tell you a true story I heard. There was a pastor whose young child was diagnosed with cancer. The day his boy was scheduled for an operation, this father cried out to God, “God, I’m almost 30 years old, but my boy is only about three months old. Why don’t you just take some years off my life and give them to my boy?” Then, from de...

He Showed Me the Rain

As I have become older, I have thought about the impact we each have on the lives of others. I have grieved over the loss of good friends who are gone. And I have wondered "What happened?" to acquaintances who did not stick around long enough to be more than an acquaintance. Usually these people were needy and took the gift of friendship and left. Friendship takes time. Friendship is like learning to dance. Step by step you figure out the friendship rhythm without losing your own beat. Friends complement your dance even if occasionally they step on your toes. As I pondered the wonder and gift of friendship, the Lord showed me the rain. The slow steady drizzle, a mist, and the drenching rain. Rain that falls quickly, rain that covers with moisture and rain that arrives with noticeable intent. As I questioned Him, "How and why can we pour out love and help into another person and just be forgotten? Used in some instances and then discarded? And He showed me ...

At Heart I Am a Child

At times I publish some of my poetry from my poetry journal, Letting Go of Cockatoo Dreams. Here is one of my poems. At heart I am a child  and the world and its trappings to much to bear I am hidden  as I pool my tears behinds eyes and ears Hating the soul tear that rends my resolve to not cry To not care To hold my resolve   a broken baby doll And then I remember daddy My father, God who holds me gently and gathers my tears Who reminds me while my sobs still hang in the air Hush my child It is alright to care To fall, yet fly,  under girded, safely guarded  In the shadow of His wings It is there  that I fly At heart I am a child learning to forgive, learning to forget pressing forward unto a new way At heart I am a child His child and today  is a new day ~ 2012 Debbie Turner Chavers Psalm 56:8 Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into th...

Time for a New Year, New Life

Image
Time=Eternity © 2010 Debbie Turner Chavers Well, it is that time again.  The end of a year and the beginning of a new year.  What will this New Year bring? Regardless of the old year and its possibly less than pleasant days, tomorrow is new .  The beginning of each new day starts with a spectacular sunrise, even if it is obscured by clouds. The sun rises day by day, arising in its own peculiar glory.  And just as a page in a book is turned, so your new day and new year unfolds day by day. What will you write on the clean, crisp pages of the New Year?  Only you know, because you are the writer. If you are writing your own story without His help, I want to encourage you to invite Him to proof read your version.  His red pen, through acceptance of His shed blood erases the mistakes of a life lived without Him. If you would like to start new   click this . This will bring you to the ABC's of Salvation .  I have wr...
